Chris Smiley Thrilled to Return to BTCC with Restart Racing
Northern Ireland’s Chris Smiley is set to return to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in 2025, teaming up with Restart Racing and driving a Hyundai i30 N.
After a two-year hiatus from BTCC, during which he claimed the TCR UK title, Smiley rejoined the BTCC grid in 2024. Competing in a Cupra Leon, he celebrated two Independent victories. Now, with Restart Racing adopting the Hyundai i30 Fastback N for the upcoming season, Smiley is reuniting with a car he previously drove for Excelr8 Racing in 2020 and 2021.
“I’m fully aware of what this i30 package can deliver,” said Smiley, reflecting on his experience. “It’s a proven race-winning car, and with the right team and preparation, we’re aiming to climb as far up the grid as we can. I’m thrilled to be back with Restart Racing and can’t wait to get started.”
With an overall race victory and six podiums to his name in BTCC, Smiley brings a wealth of experience to Restart Racing. The 2025 BTCC season promises excitement, with 30 races spread across 10 rounds, starting at Donington Park on 26-27 April.
