England’s Marco Penge has been banned for a betting breach by the DP World Tour. The 26-year-old golfer violated tour rules by placing bets on multiple events, although he did not wager on himself or on tournaments he was competing in. The tour confirmed that the integrity of the events he bet on was not compromised. As a result, Penge has been given a three-month ban, with one month suspended for a year, and a £2,000 fine.
DP World Tour Decision and Penalty
Despite the findings, Penge has been fined £2,000 and suspended for three months, with one month of the suspension being deferred for a year. He has also been told that he can return to competition in mid-February 2025, following the completion of his suspension, which began on 13 December 2024.
Penge’s Performance and Career Milestones
Penge, who just completed his first full season on the DP World Tour, faced a tense final week at the Genesis Championship in South Korea, knowing he needed a strong finish to maintain his tour status. His performance, including a crucial five-foot putt to make the weekend cut, earned him enough points to finish 110th in the standings, securing his spot on the tour for the following year.
Tour Integrity Maintained
While Penge’s betting did not involve wagers on his own performances or tournaments he participated in, the tour took disciplinary action in accordance with its strict rules on betting activities. The DP World Tour emphasized that Penge’s actions did not jeopardize the integrity of the events he placed bets on.
