LeBron and Bronny James Make NBA History
LeBron James and his son Bronny made NBA history by becoming the first father-son duo to share the court in an official NBA game. This historic moment occurred during the Los Angeles Lakers’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. With four minutes left in the first half, coach JJ Redick introduced the pair, eliciting a thunderous cheer from the sold-out crowd at the Crypto.com Arena.
A Memorable Moment for the James Family
LeBron and Bronny had previously played together in a pre-season game against the Phoenix Suns. After the game, LeBron expressed his joy, stating, “It’s always been family over everything. I lost a lot of time because of this league, so to be able to have this moment where I am working still and I can work alongside my son, it’s one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever got from the man above, and I’m going to take full advantage of it.”
The significance of this moment was highlighted by the presence of Ken Griffey Sr and Ken Griffey Jr, who famously made Major League Baseball history as a father-son duo for the Seattle Mariners in 1990-1991.
Bronny’s Debut and LeBron’s Performance
In his NBA debut, Bronny played three minutes in the first half, missing both field-goal attempts but securing an offensive rebound. LeBron, meanwhile, contributed eight points and three rebounds in 17 minutes before the break, finishing the game with 16 points in 35 minutes.
Reflecting on his debut, Bronny said, “Going up to the scorers’ table and checking in for the first time was a crazy moment I will never forget. I’m just extremely grateful for everything. I was given an amazing opportunity to come into this league and get better every day and learn every day.”
Looking Ahead
Bronny joined the Lakers as a second-round draft pick from the University of Southern California in June. LeBron, now 39, holds the record for the most points scored in NBA history and has won four NBA championships. Currently in his 22nd season, LeBron has not yet announced when he plans to retire. He signed a new two-year deal with the Lakers following Bronny’s arrival at the franchise.
