Nikola Jokic has made history by passing NBA legend Magic Johnson on the all-time triple-doubles list, now holding the third spot with 139 career triple-doubles. This incredible feat came after his performance in the Denver Nuggets’ recent loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jokic recorded 27 points, 20 rebounds, and 11 assists in the game, marking his ninth triple-double of the season.
A triple-double is when a player achieves double digits in three of the five statistical categories, and Jokic’s consistency has made him one of the greatest all-around players in NBA history. Despite this achievement, the Nuggets were defeated 126-114 by the Cavaliers, with Donovan Mitchell leading the way for Cleveland with 28 points.
“It’s something that you’re probably going to look at after you finish your career,” Jokic said. “Right now, you don’t even think about it. But it’s a great thing. It’s really nice.”
Jokic Moves to Third on the Triple-Doubles List
Jokic’s latest achievement places him behind only Oscar Robertson (181) and Russell Westbrook (200) on the all-time triple-doubles list. His consistency in both scoring and playmaking has helped define his career.
While the Nuggets fell short in Cleveland, the team remains a strong contender, and Jokic continues to be a key player in their success. However, head coach Michael Malone emphasized his concern for the team’s overall performance, saying, “I’m just so much more concerned about my team right now.”
Donovan Mitchell Shines in Cavs’ Win
Donovan Mitchell was instrumental in Cleveland’s victory, scoring 28 points, including a season-high 22 three-pointers for the Cavaliers. Mitchell praised Jokic’s impact on the Nuggets, acknowledging, “Jokic is MVP for a reason, he makes that team phenomenal.”
Luka Doncic Joins All-Time Triple-Double List
Meanwhile, Luka Doncic also moved up the triple-doubles list, securing his 78th career triple-double as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Washington Wizards 137-101. Doncic’s 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists have him now tied for seventh on the all-time list with Wilt Chamberlain and James Harden.
