World number one Scottie Scheffler has solidified his place in golfing history by becoming the second man after Tiger Woods to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year award three consecutive times. Scheffler received the Jack Nicklaus Award for the third straight year, securing 91% of the vote from his fellow players.

Scheffler’s 2024 season was nothing short of remarkable. The 28-year-old won seven titles, including his second Masters victory at Augusta National in April. His dominance on the tour mirrors the incredible achievements of Tiger Woods, who last accomplished a seven-title season in 2007.

While Rory McIlroy has claimed the Player of the Year honor three times, only Woods and Scheffler have done so in consecutive years, highlighting their unique dominance in the sport.

Olympic Gold and Career Milestones

A standout moment in Scheffler’s season came at the Paris Olympics, where he clinched the gold medal with a masterful back-nine performance. Reflecting on the event, Scheffler said:

“The nine holes that stick out to me the most maybe would be the back nine at the Olympics. The way Teddy (caddie Teddy Scott) and I finished off that tournament was pretty cool.”

Comparisons to Tiger Woods

As comparisons to Tiger Woods arise, Scheffler remains humble.

“I think we’re always looking to compare somebody to Tiger Woods,” Scheffler said. “I saw it a lot growing up, but there’s really only one Tiger – that’s just kind of it.”

Woods, who has won the Player of the Year award 11 times, set the benchmark with five consecutive awards between 1999 and 2003, followed by another streak from 2005 to 2007.
